Geon Art Deco Weekend Vintage Car Parade Already Full

The traditional Vintage Car Parade and Display of Vintage Cars, which is one of the most popular events of the Geon Art Deco Weekend each year, now has a full complement of cars which has meant organisers have now closed registrations.

The Automobilia Street Parade which winds its way up Emerson Street from Clive Square and concludes on the Marine Parade outside the Sound Shell in Napier commences at 12.30pm on Saturday 19 February. The parade will feature around 250 carefully restored pre-1946 vintage cars and should make a great spectacle according to Art Deco Trust Events Manager Ann Barrar.

“The vintage cars will be accompanied by the six service units we are honouring that assisted Hawke’s Bay to rebuild after the 1931 Earthquake, says Mrs Barrar. “As February 2011 is the 80th Anniversary of the Hawke’s Bay Earthquake this will be a particularly special parade and will be amazing to view”.

The vintage cars can be viewed at Clive Square before the parade and up on Marine parade at the conclusion of the event. Ann Barrar added. “The perfect start is at the Marquee Munch event in Clive Square where brunch dinners will be able to view the cars assembling

The parade will take about 55 minutes to pass any point in the parade.

Car registrations come from as far south as Christchurch and as far north as Whangarei and overseas from Brisbane and the UK. More than half those registered are from outside the Napier/Hastings area.
