Artist donates paintings
A local artist, Annette Ashton has donated an amazing 80+ paintings with all funds raised from their sale going to the Cancer Society here in Canterbury. Most of the original paintings, in oil, water paints and acrylics are being offered at 1/10th of their value to ensure they walk out the door.
This is being organised through a friend of the artist, Tracy Wood, who along with friends and workmates is taking part in a nationwide fundraiser for the Cancer Society, Relay for Life (held at Canterbury Agricultural Park on 5/6 March). Annette has lost her Mother and many friends and family to cancer, and is happy to be able to contribute to this very worthy cause.
The art works are to be sold at an Exhibition/Auction to be held on Saturday 19 February, 6-8 pm, at Street Latin Salsa, 450 Tuam Street, Christchurch. Entry is by gold coin donation. They are hoping to have local businesses to donate wine/juice for their exhibition. All proceeds from the Exhibition/Auction will go towards the Cancer Society.
Annette and Tracy became involved in Relay for Life when a friend, Jenny contracted muscle cancer. Jenny was part of the 2008 Relay for Life, and sadly passed away in 2008. Tracy and her team “Superheroes” are participating for the fourth year, in memory of all those they have lost to cancer, and to support those who are fighting it at present. They are also organising sausage sizzles, a car boot sale, a Fundraiser – Night at the Races, and raffles.
Relay for Life is a remarkable and moving overnight event to raise funds for the Cancer Society, and is held yearly thorough out New Zealand. All funds raised support the Cancer Society’s work in our community, and are used to improve community well-being by reducing the incidence and impact of cancer, for support services and information, fund research and promote a healthy lifestyle. www.relayforlife.org.nz
