Auckland artist shows the world his workings

*Auckland artist shows the world his workings*
Auckland based artist Aaron McConchie is baring the construction of his one day sculpture, aptly named 'The world around' with, well... the world.
Mr McConchie has created an online construction diary to highlight some of his successes and failures when working with the limited materials. Artists often like to keep their methods a secret but Mr McConchie is bucking those trends by posting photos, videos and comments as he works on many of the components of the installation in his South Auckland studio.
Created as part of the Auckland Fringe, The World Around is constructed entirely of corrugated cardboard and small reusable plastic fasteners from Makedo.com.au. Construction has begun on several of the pieces within the show with more to be created on the day as the installation constantly changes and evolves from the 8am start time to it's finish at 8pm.
Taking technology one step further he will be creating a stop motion HD video of the big day using a digital still camera and laptop. Such is the ephemeral nature of the work, the video (and photos) will become the only lasting memoriam to this work.
When quizzed on his use of technology with a work primarily consisting of simple materials Mr McConchie commented, "Although I wouldn't consider myself a process artist I see no need in hiding it (the process). I am using technology to document and share with the world around, what is an integral part to art - the making. With the Fringe primarily angled towards performance I find it important to record this project in a time-based media."
The World Around will occur on the 26th February from 8am to 8pm. One day, One installation, One artist = result unknown.
