Musicians Raise Money Online with Songs for Christchurch

Bands donate tracks to help raise money for Red Cross NZ with MusicHype.com

The Wellington based start-up MusicHype.com put out an appeal last week asking musicians to submit tracks for a Christchurch earthquake fundraiser. Within minutes the tracks started flooding in and "Songs for Christchurch" was launched.

So far MusicHype members & artists have raised over $2,300. For a minimum $5 donation folks can pick up over six hours of music with tracks from: Fat Freddy's Drop, Eva Prowse, Supermodel, Psyrock, Teacups, Clap Clap Riot, King Kapisi, Rosy Tin Teacaddy, Salmonella Dub and so many more.

"We couldn't be more proud of the artists & fans who are getting behind our drive," says Annabel Youens, CMO of MusicHype. "We're still getting new tracks every day from artists. This afternoon we're putting up part eight! It's such a phenomenal response. It just goes to show how everyone in NZ is pulling together to make a difference, any way they can."

Wellington duo Rosy Tin Teacaddy have donated their yet-to-be-released track Telegrams and Ashes. "This track is from our forthcoming album, All Mountains Are Men, written and recorded at Lake Tarawera on the Wild Creations artists-in-residence scheme. The track deals with the 1886 eruption of Mt Tarawera and hence is very fitting for the Christchurch quake fund," says Billy Earl (aka Andy Hummel).

"All our artists hope their music can help raise much needed funds for Christchurch. Plus it's a way we can all get involved and feel connected," says Annabel.

Any visitor who has donated to Songs for Christchurch can come back to MusicHype.com and pick up the new tracks getting added every day. And of course musicians who want to contribute can still get involved. Together we are making a difference!
