you are in Wellington make sure you go to Homegrown to see
them.
We have heard this social media thing is all the
rage, so you can find us on FACEBOOK here, this TWITTER thing
here, and now we even worked out what YOUTUBE does (and we have even been
uploading some videos).

Arch Hill Recordings VS Muzai Records 2011 Sunday
Afternoon BBQ Indie Label Sound Off
Team Arch Hill on the
indoor stage with…
The Clean, Surf City, Street
Chant, Ghost Wave
Team Muzai on the outdoor stage
with…
Full Moon Fiasco, Cat Venom, Sherpa and
Onesie
Last year Arch Hill celebrated it’s 10th
Birthday at the Kings Arms with a BBQ and bands like The
Bats, Minisnap, Surf City, Superette, Family Cactus,
Polaroyd/Bird Nest Roys, Andrew McKenzie, White Swan Black
Swan and others playing… it was a great afternoon and
Pavement even turned up (and got in trouble for bringing
along their own beer after band practice).
This year we plan to do more relaxing, drinking beer and enjoying good music and sunshine. This time we have invited our good buddies Muzai Records along for the party and added an extra outdoor stage.
Most exciting of all is that this year we will have The Clean at the show. This is one of only two New Zealand shows before they head to Australia for Golden Plains and an Australian Tour….that’s right, lets say that again – THE CLEAN!
Although we are calling it a BBQ, strictly speaking there will not be a BBQ. Instead (after their popularity at the Laneway Festival and our Christmas party) we will have Tasty Hungarian Langos bread available in the garden bar. Yum.

David
Kilgour & The Heavy Eights - Left By Soft - Out
April
David Kilgour has a new album with his
combo the Heavy Eights - released on April 18. Titled Left
by Soft, it is David's eighth solo album and his fourth with
Arch Hill.
The album was recorded in the Catlins, about
two hours south of Dunedin, New Zealand, in an old lodge
surrounded by native bush, birds, and the sea. David spent
about a week down there with the Heavy Eights. Thomas Bell
engineered and produced but also played bass and cooked the
band awesome meals every night. After chilling out most
mornings, the band would start recording mid afternoon into
the night. Apart from a couple of overblown tracks, they
kept overdubs to a minimum and when mixing left most takes
as is - no cleaning up via Pro Tools editing, etc.
"To
me, it sounds like the band on a good night, warts and all,"
says Kilgour. "It's probably the first real "band" LP I've
made since Frozen Orange or the David Kilgour and the Heavy
8's LP from the mid '90s."
Check out MP3: "Diamond Mine"
Left by
Soft, his first album in four years with the Heavy Eights
(Taane Tokona on drums, Tony de Raad on guitar and
keyboards, and Thomas Bell on bass and keyboards), comes on
the heels of the Clean's excellent 2009 outing, Mister Pop.
You could say it's all part of a late-career renaissance,
but that implies there's been some sort of valley in his 30
years of making music. This time, there are more of the
elegantly chiming chords and beautifully drifting solos, all
presented with Kilgour's sparkling pop
sensibilities.

Ghost
Wave - Sign to Arch Hill and Forthcoming EP
Arch Hill are very pleased to announce the forthcoming
debut EP release by Auckland band Ghost Wave.
The
EP was mostly recorded in their Sandringham garage "Ghost
Cave" and a Kingsland loft.
It features seven propulsive
cuts that will hook you in like a powerful magnet. At the
Arch Hill office the EP has been glued to the stereo for the
last month. We can't wait until everyone else gets to hear
it.
The band have been playing shows around the traps in
Auckland, including carpark parties with their buddies
Surf City, Camp Low Hum.
And they also play
at the upcoming Arch Hill vs Muzai BBQ in Auckland on
6th March with The Clean, Street Chant,
Surf City, Full Moon Fiasco, Sherpa, Oneise
and more...
The EP is out on Arch Hill on 4th April
2011
