Brass Bands Response To Christchurch Earthquake Appeal

FRIDAY MARCH 11TH 2011 | BY THE TRUSTS WAITAKERE BRASS BAND

The Trusts Waitakere Brass Band will donate the proceeds from their upcoming concert 'By Request' to the Canterbury Earthquake Appeal. The dedicated fundraising concert will be held on Saturday 19th March (7.30pm) at Te Atatu Baptist Church, Auckland.

All the proceeds from this performance will be donated to The Salvation Army Earthquake Appeal Fund. The Trusts Waitakere Brass Band has close ties with the Garden City with a number of their players being based in Christchurch at the time of the disaster and many others who have family and friends in the region. "The Band members wanted to help and donating the proceeds from this concert was the best way we knew how to do that as a group - it's our way of giving back to a city that means so much to so many of our members and supporters," said Musical Director, Steven Booth.

The concert, will be an evening of fine brass band music which promises to have something for everyone. As the name suggest the program will comprise of pieces requested by audience members.

Highlights will include performances by some of The Band's soloists such as Fendal Hill, James Case and Brent Large. There will also be a cornet solo lament, 'Someone Cares', performed by Salvation Army Band cornet player, Keith Patey, as a mark of respect to those who have lost their lives in Christchurch. The Band would love to fill the church hall for this concert so that they can maximize the donation they can give to the appeal.
