Dropkick Murphys Return with New
Album, Going Out In Style
Celtic punk legends Dropkick Murphys are back in full force with their seventh full-length studio album, Going Out In style.
A 45 minute, 49 second party to end all parties, Going Out In Style will see to it you have a jig in your step and a jug in your hand, all the while reveling in the Irish tradition of telling tales of triumph, tragedy and celebration through music.
The band revives the art of the album as a cohesive whole on this raucous and rollicking romp overflowing with punk rock energy, folk soul, and rebellious spirit.
Fueled by fiery riffs and unforgettable choruses, Going Out In Style traces the journey of Cornelius Larkin, whether it’s the Irish immigrant’s first person account of his own wake or the band’s in depth interpretation of his life and lineage throughout the album’s lyrics.
Frontman Al Barr describes the band’s evolution on record number seven. “This album was different and exciting for us because we were telling someone’s story. It may start with a rowdy out-of-control wake, but as the story goes back to explore the long life of the character Cornelius, we really became engrossed in the depth of the story and life of this man.”
Continuing their tradition of incredible guest collaborations, Dropkick Murphys enlisted the vocal talents of the legendary Bruce Springsteen, Fat Mike (NOFX), Chris Cheney (The Living End) and Lenny Clarke (Rescue Me) for the album.
Having racked up record sales in excess of three million worldwide, achieved a US top 20 album and most importantly of all, cultivated one of the most fervent fan bases in rock music, Dropkick Murphys have given us 15-years of explosive punk rock with the list of achievements to match.
And it’s not a growth that’s going to stop anytime soon, with Going Out In Style signaling the beginning of another chapter in Dropkick Murphys’ own story.
Barr leaves off, “I hope fans can listen to Going Out In Style with the same excitement we have. It’s all about family and friends for us. No bullshit…we don’t like to convolute things. That translates to the music, and the fans appreciate it. It’s a beautiful thing, and I can’t wait to introduce Cornelius Larkin to the world.”
