Sir Peter Leitch New NZRL Patron
PRESS RELEASE
Sir Peter Leitch New NZRL Patron
Auckland, New Zealand March 29, 2011 –
Following the Annual Meeting, New Zealand Rugby League is
pleased to announce that Sir Peter Leitch has been confirmed
as its new Patron. This honorary position is for a minimum
period of three years.
The Right Honourable Helen Clark was the previous Patron, and had to step aside due to other commitments.
Trevor Maxwell will continue as the NZRL President for a further two years, a position he has held since 2008, and Meng Foon was re elected to the NZRL Board.
Scott Carter, NZRL Chairman said “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Helen Clark for her service to our game; she has been our Patron since 2002 and has been a great supporter of the game and the NZRL. She is a genuine fan and we look forward to seeing her at the league when she returns to NZ.”
“We are really grateful to Sir Peter for agreeing to become the new Patron. He has been extremely supportive of the changes and development of rugby league under the new structure and we are very fortunate to have someone with his passion involved.”
“I would also
like to thank Trevor for agreeing to stay on as President
and I look forward to continuing to work with him and with
Meng on the Board.”
Due to changes in the end of
financial year the next NZRL Annual Meeting will be held in
June 2012.
