New Exhibition @ ROAR! Icons or Idols?

WHAT: ICONS OR IDOLS?
WITH: PABLOS STUDIO SHOW
WHEN: 14-30 APRIL 2011
WHERE: ROAR! gallery

Near the corner of Vivian and Victoria Streets Wellington

Pablos studio responds in vivid ways to symbols and heroes

Athina Moisa gives her favourite singer Nana Mouskouri the icon treatment and Pablos regular Michael Cox uses his refined graphic skills to reconstruct Lady Gaga.

After exploring the graphic and design skills of Byzantine icon paintings Pablos artists give icon art a contemporary twist exploring the icons and heroes of today's secular world. This is the first time since 2003 that the annual Pablos group show has focused on a specific theme allowing artists the freedom to explore their individual response to a common idea.

The line-up includes the usual suspects from rock stars and sports heroes to members of the High Court with walk on appearances from culinary goddess Peta Mathias, cult filmmaker David Lynch and Kung Fu legend Bruce Lee.

Pablos is a vibrant, creative space in the heart of Wellington that provides free access and art tuition to people who have experienced mental illness. Connecting with an art practice facilitates connecting with others and ROAR! provides the interface.

Come and see what Reece Tong, Charles Cunningham, Matthew Squire, Gypsy Blu and others have rendered as precious.

Join us at ROAR! gallery near the corner of Vivian and Victoria Streets on the opening night 5.30 - 7pm Thursday 14 April to meet the artist/s and share a glass of wine.
