Olympic showjumper Katie McVean has jumped the round of her life to finish sixth in the speed round at the opening of the World Cup final in Leipzig, Germany this morning.

Aboard her 10-year-old home-bred mare Dunstan Delphi, McVean jumped clean and clear in 65.67 seconds. Winner Marco Kutscher (Germany) aboard Cash stopped the clock at 63.55.

The result has McVean rannked just six points behind Kutscher in the standings at the end of day one. Defending champion Marcus Ehning (Germany) and Sabrina were second.

Forty-three started this morning's class, with the Germans dominating, taking the top three slots. Poles fell all around Frank Rothenberger's course, which tested rider's ability to keep a rhythm while taking tight turns to ensure a strong finishing spot in this first of the three deciding competitions.

Tomorrow they''ll jump again with just the top two thirds of the field going through to the two round final on Sunday (German time).
