Auckland Youth Symphony Orchestra going to
Berlin via New York
Acclaimed New Zealand singer Tim Beveridge is teaming up with the Auckland Youth Symphony Orchestra (AYO) to present New York New York.
Beveridge and the AYO will present three concerts to raise funds to send the AYO to perform at the Young Euro Classic Festival in Berlin. This is the the first time a New Zealand orchestra has been invited to the prestigious event.
“It’s the first time I have worked with the AYO and they are an exciting bunch of musicians,” says Beveridge. “The concerts are going to be a fantastic way to show off their talent as well as raise funds for this wonderful opportunity they have received.”
Conducted by
Antun Poljanich, New York New York will see Beveridge
perform new orchestrations from the legendary composer
Russell Garcia (arranger for Judy Garland, Louis Armstrong
and Ella Fitzgerald) alongside music from his best-selling
NZSO album SINGER. The orchestra will also perform
selections from Bernstein’s WESTSIDE
STORY.
The AYO is the leading training
orchestra in New Zealand for professional musicians. Along
with providing training to our future musicians, the
orchestra also tours and presents concerts both nationally
and internationally.
The group received the invitation to perform at the Young Euro Classic Festival in August this year following their recent tour of the United States.
The Young Euro Classic Festival was established in 2000 to promote the world’s leading youth orchestras and is now regarded as one of the most prestigious events of its kind.
New York New York will be held at venues around Auckland and Northland in May. For ticketing information please see below.
