SUBWAY® Pro Cycling’s Horgan wins national time trial

SUBWAY® Pro Cycling’s Horgan wins national time trial
5May 2011

SUBWAY® Pro Cycling’s Sam Horgan won the senior time trial on the opening day of the RaboDirect National Club Championships in Wanganui today.

Horgan, from Canterbury’s Pegasus Club, won in a time of 52 minutes with an average speed of 46.15 kilometres per hour. Former double Olympian in ice skating and cycling and past national time trial champion Chris Nicholson from Tasman was second, nine seconds behind Horgan with Wellington’s Andy Hagen third.

“I’m stoked to win my first national senior title and was happy to have the legs after the tough tour in Korea two weeks ago,” Horgan said.

Horgan will be joined by SUBWAY® Pro Cycling team mates Nick Lovegrove, Dillion Bennett, Matt Gorter and Paul Odlin in the RaboDirect National Club Championships 154 kilometre road race on Sunday.

SUBWAY® Pro Cycling’s General Manager Hayden Godfrey said he expected the team to perform well on Sunday.

“They rode very well in Korea last month and should be flying so long as they’ve recovered from the tough Asian tour.”

“Paul rode very well to win the tour’s sprinter’s jersey and should be carrying that form into Sunday’s race.”
