NZ little league baseball team off to Guam


NZ team fund-raising to take part in Asia-Pacific little league tournament in Guam

New Zealand will take part in the Asia-Pacific little league baseball tournament in Dededo, Guam in July.

The team leaves on July for 3 for warm up games for the July 8-18 tournament. Other teams taking part are the Philippines, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Korea, Indonesia, The Republic of China, Singapore, Thailand, the Northern Marianas and Guam.

Last year New Zealand lost to Taiwan who won the tournament and then went on to win the world series too. Parents and management of the under-13 NZ team are seeking to raise $70,000 to help pay for the trip.

The winner of the Asia-Pacific event will receive an all expenses trip paid for to compete in the world little league series in August 2011 at Williamsport in Pennsylvania.

The New Zealand team is: Connor Gleeson, Hoskins Sotutu, Elliot Johnstone, Kyle Glogoski, Jake may, Javarn Woolston, Cory Hopa, Taishi Nakamura, Hideto Nagai, Sebastian rice-Phillips, Kade Scally, Correze Nepia, Zane Ross. Head coach Mike Rielly; assistant Blair Johnstone; manager Terry Dartnell.
