EVENT Cinemas Scores 3D RWC2011 Deal

EVENT Cinemas Scores 3D RWC2011 Deal

23 May 2011

Event Cinemas has signed a deal with 3D Live to screen both the semi-finals, the bronze medal match and the final of the Rugby World Cup 2011 in 3D in Auckland, Whangarei, Hamilton, New Plymouth and Wellington. General Manager for New Zealand, Jane Hastings, says it is an absolute thrill to be awarded the rights.

“We know this will be hugely popular, what better place to watch the rugby than at your local Event movie theatre – it’s warm and dry with comfy seating, a huge screen, surround sound and in 3D. It will be just like being at the game, the atmosphere will be incredible. All of our cinemas are licensed so people can purchase alcohol as well as soft drinks and food to enjoy while they are watching the game!”

Mrs Hastings says it is their new digital technology that is making it possible.

“Last year we made a commitment to upgrade all of our cinema locations throughout the country to have the latest in digital technology. It’s paying off with the huge variety of content we can show our customers from blockbusters to concerts through to sports matches.”

Mrs Hastings says they have shown 3D sport before in the form of the ARL Grand Final and the response was incredible.

“People loved it so we know the Rugby World Cup being shown in cinema will go off, it’s massive.”

Mrs Hastings says both of the semi-finals, the bronze medal match and the final of the Rugby World Cup 2011 will be shown in 3D all of their EVENT Cinemas locations.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Tuesday 24 May at 9am on www.eventcinemas.co.nz
