We're expecting!

Butterfly Creek, the home of the crocs, is eagerly looking forward to the arrival of some baby croc cuties!

An import of live croc eggs arrived in April from Australia and they are due to hatch in very late May or early June. If the incubation is successful, then they will be the first baby crocodiles to be reared in New Zealand.

The eggs have already made a significant journey from the Northern Territory, requiring careful packaging and constant monitoring to ensure they arrived fit and healthy prior to being placed into their temperature and humidity controlled incubator at Butterfly Creek.

The tiny hatchlings will be approximately 28-30cm in length and will join Butterfly Creek's resident giant male saltwater crocodiles - Scar and Goldie and five baby alligators.

The babies will soon need names and Butterfly Creek is running a competition through their website - www.butterflycreek.co.nz for one lucky person to name a little salty! Simply head along to the website and place your guess to be in to win.
