School holiday camps and full season programmes offered to teenagers this winter
LAKE WANAKA, New Zealand (May 30, 2011) – School holidays for teenage skiers are looking exciting this winter with Treble Cone’s teen-specific free ski training camp and the E/K full time ski racing programme being held over weekends and during the school holidays.
The free ski training camp provides young skiers aged between 11-17 the opportunity to experience big mountain skiing, explore a vast amount of off piste terrain, challenge themselves and become a better all mountain skier skiing anything and anywhere.
The two five-day camps (starting 18th and 25th July), will be led by eight-time New Zealand Freeski champion Geoff Small working alongside a team of international coaches, developing participants all-round skiing skills, enhancing a safer big mountain experience and boosting confidence taking on Treble Cone’s natural challenging terrain. Participants should be at a strong intermediate level to ensure they get the most out of this camp.
“Teens passionate about their skiing will be in their element during the programme. They will be skiing and learning with experienced coaches and taking on the awesome terrain of Treble Cone,” said Nigel Kerr, Treble Cone marketing manager.
For budding young ski racers the E/K full time programme kicks off with two weekend sessions on 1st and 8th July followed by 10 days of coaching during the school holidays and then continues with another eight weekends.
Designed to prepare teenagers for competitive ski racing, the course provides 40 days on snow developing fundamental skills that will raise well-rounded skiers into confident ski racers.
Led by Jas Bruce (Euro test timer) and former Treble Cone Race Academy ski technique coach Klaus Mair, the programme offers locals a chance to gain the mental and physical skills needed to race competitively whilst attending school. The junior athletes will also have the chance to experience real race situations with some coaching taking place during the Southern Lakes Junior Interfield series events.
The Treble Cone Free Ski holiday camps cost $475 which includes four hours of tuition per day. The E/K programme costs $2,000 and includes 4.5 hours on snow per day and a Treble Cone’s season pass.
Treble Cone will open on 23 June with a scheduled closing day of 2 October. For further information or for bookings, visit www.treblecone.com.
