Messiah tests aspiring actors

UCOL’s Certificate of Performing Arts students have turned to religion to realise their dramatic aspirations.

The students will open a four night season of Steven Berkoff’s play Messiah, from Wednesday 29 June.

The play is the troupe’s final performance as an ensemble and is the culmination of their six months of study together.

Messiah dares to look at the Crucifixion as a supreme political and personal act – perfect dramatic material for UCOL’s aspiring actors and their tutor and director, Jaime Dorner.

Jaime’s fresh approach and emphasis on physical theatre has proved popular with his students.

Jaime says, “The group has responded very well to the demands I have put on them. They see I trust in them and they have learnt to trust themselves.”
Messiah will feature music composed by UCOL voice tutor and musician Susan Hawes and the students of the Certificate in Performing Arts programme.

Where: Buckman Studio on the corner of Princess and King Streets.
When: Wednesday 29 June to 2 July at 7.00pm.
Tickets: $10.00 (students: $5.00) at the door.
