Festival of Colour Update July 2011

Festival of Colour Update July 2011

As the temperatures finally drop in Wanaka and our ski fields have all of their fingers crossed for snow, the Festival of Colour seems like a dim and distant memory.

If you are craving some artistic stimulation then look out for the programme from the Christchurch Arts Festival. We feel a real affinity with them – we have lent them the ‘Home’ billboard that Flox painted during the Festival of Colour, and donated the proceeds from the Island Summer performance to help with their local artists. And of course Philip Tremewan, our festival director, has also been putting together the programme for the Christchurch Arts festival for the last year or so.

The format of the festival has had to change a lot to reflect the state of flux that they are in, but they are going ahead to bring some light and warmth, some heart and soul to the people of the city. The Festival runs over eight weekends, starting 12 August. There are bound to be some wonderful performances including another chance to see ‘Rita and Douglas’ if you missed its premiere in Queenstown or Wanaka, and also SALON, the follow up show to HOTEL that was such a sell out here in April. They have commissioned a new memorial piece of music from Gareth Farr and also feature two very different versions of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
The programme launches on 7th July – click here for more information.

Home is where the heart is

Talking of Flox – she has made some beautiful organic cotton t-shirts with her ‘Home is where the heart is’ design
on them. You can buy them locally at the Wonder Room in Wanaka or online from Flox – www.flox.co.nz

New General Manager role

Many of you will be familiar with our hard working local coordinator Lindsey Schofield, and in recognition of all of her events she will assume the new role of General Manager going forward to plan Festival of Colour 2013.

Annual General Meeting

Coming up in the Spring will be our AGM on Tuesday October 25th at the Lake Wanaka centre, and also we hope to announce soon a function to thank all of our patrons and sponsors.

If you have been a patron and would like to carry on with your support and spread the cost over the next two years then please get in touch with Lindsey on lindsey@festivalofcolour.co.nz about setting up a monthly automatic payment. At only $23/month it's a great way to support the festival.

The office is on winter hours now and will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings only.

The 2011 Festival of Colour was generously supported by Central Lakes Trust, Community Trust of Otago, Creative New Zealand and Aurora.
