The Graduate Exhibition at the Blue Oyster

The Graduate Exhibition at the Blue Oyster

Three recent graduates from the Dunedin Art School are exhibiting together at the Blue Oyster in a show curated by University of Otago Art History graduate Emily Palmer. In conjunction with the Blue Oyster Board of Trustees and former Director Jaenine Parkinson, Palmer selected three artists from the 2010 SITE exhibition.

This year the Blue Oyster Graduate exhibition is taking place in July in order to allow the graduates to create new work and engage in a more collaborative process with the curator, whose guiding curatorial concept of ‘environments’ has lead to three vastly different bodies of work.

Oliver van der Lugt has chosen to explore certain unseen aspects of domestic environments; Claire Mahoney's installation investigates the process of collecting in direct relation to the particular environment of display while Tom Garden's digital images reference new technologies and their potential to fundamentally alter the way we interact with our immediate and distant surroundings.

The exhibition preview is 5.30pm, Tuesday 12 July and the exhibition will run until 20 August 2011.

At 2pm on Saturday 23 July Maggie Gresson, the Executive Director of Artists Alliance, will be involved in a panel discussion about young and emerging artists in New Zealand.
