Kaitangata Twitches Back To Life – The Full Series
Returns To Maori Television
After a successful first
screening, awarding winning Maori Television-commissioned
series KAITANGATA TWITCHKAITANGATA TWITCH returns to
air from Saturday 16 July at 6.30PM.
For those who
missed it the first time or just could not get enough of
KAITANGATA TWITCH,KAITANGATA TWITCH, the full series
of the thrilling New Zealand mystery drama – adapted from
author Margaret Mahy’s popular children’s novel of the
same name – is back.
It follows 13-year-old Meredith
Gallagher (played by Te Waimarie Kessell) and her connection
to the mysterious island of Kaitangata where a young girl
vanished 50 years previously. The series also stars veteran
Maori actor George Henare.
KAITANGATA
TWITCHKAITANGATA TWITCH has drawn plenty of critical
acclaim since it first screened last year including in May
this year when the Production Shed produced show won Best
Dramatic Presentation at the Sir Julius Vogel
Awards.
The Sir Julius Vogel Awards is named after the
New Zealand Prime Minister who in 1889 wrote what was
probably the first full length science fiction novel by a
Kiwi (Anno Domini 2000 – A Woman’s Destiny) and is
fan-based, with voting taking place prior to and during the
National Science Fiction covention each year.
Members
of the convention and/or Science Fiction, Fantasy and fandom
in New Zealand (SFFANZ) choose from the science fiction,
fantasy or horror genres for works including novels, short
stories, art and moving image.
KAITANGATA TWITCH
KAITANGATA TWITCH director Yvonne Mackay, who
directed the 13 half-hour episodes, says, “It is a credit
to the people that invested in KAITANGATA
TWITCHKAITANGATA TWITCH, Margaret Mahy’s creativity
and good name and the high quality production values on this
family show, that we could hold our own with a big budget
adult series”.

Twitch Twitch has already received Platinum, the
top award, at the Houston World Fest; was a finalist at the
esteemed Prix Jeunesse festival in Germany and for Best
Non-Animated or Mixed Series category at the Kidscreen
Awards in New York. It was also nominated for eight Qantas
Film and Television Awards in New Zealand, winning three –
Best Actor for George Henare; Best Production Design (Gary
Mackay) and Best Sound Design (Steve Finnigan, James Hayday
and Tom
Miskin).
