Harry Potter Shatters Box Office Records In New Zealand

It All Ends Here! Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows €“ Part 2 Shatters Box Office Records In New Zealand

Friday 15th July, 2011 —Warner Bros. Pictures’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, the final adventure of the film series based on the beloved books by J.K. Rowling, shattered box office records in New Zealand, earning $973,285 in its opening day, making this the highest grossing opening day of all time.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 opened on approximately 149 screens, with fans lining up for hours to be among the first to see the film. The opening day gross eclipsed the previous record of $919,000, set by Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King. The film also broke existing records for the highest grossing Thursday of all time, biggest ever opening for any Harry Potter film in the franchise and biggest midnight session result of all time for the New Zealand market.

The Harry Potter film series had already achieved the distinction of being the top-grossing film franchise of all time, a milestone it reached with the combined success of the first five films.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, reprising their roles as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The film’s ensemble cast also includes Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Tom Felton, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Ciarán Hinds, John Hurt, Jason Isaacs, Matthew Lewis, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, David Thewlis, Julie Walters and Bonnie Wright.

The film was directed by David Yates, and produced by David Heyman, David Barron and J.K. Rowling. Screenwriter Steve Kloves adapted the screenplay, based on the book by J.K. Rowling. Lionel Wigram is the executive producer.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Heyday Films Production, a David Yates Film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, which is the first Harry Potter film to be released in both 3D and 2D.

The film is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
