Homai Te Pakipaki
Winner For 2011 Announced!
The votes are
in and Maori Television is pleased to announce that the
winner of this year’s HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI is Chad
Chambers.
With his trademark white gumboots, Chad trekked all the way from Marton for the grand final top 10 sing-off at Auckland’s Logan Campbell Centre in front of a full house live audience earlier tonight, wowing the crowd with his vote-winning performance.
Chad (Ngati Porou) takes
home $10,000 in prize money and bragging rights for series
five of HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI after impressing the crowd
with their rendition of Rod Stewarts’ I don’t
want to talk about it.
After winning, Chad
says he was still feeling overwhelmed but wanted to give
thanks to all his supporters.
“Thank you to all my whanau who came to support me and everyone who voted – jah bless,” he says.
The winner and crowd favourite was followed up in the votes by the West Auckland singing funeral director Francis Tipene (Te Rarawa), second, and the young man from Putaruru, Dougy Petley, came in third place with his smooth version of Kolohe Kai’s popular hit Ehu Girl.
Presenters Te Hamua Nikora and Matai Smith, congratulate all the Paki who sang in the grand final.
The heats and subsequent semi-finals uncovered some amazing talent over the past few months as hundreds of aspiring singers fronted up to audition at Maori Television's Auckland studios.
For many of them, getting to sing on national television was a dream, and HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI an amazing opportunity to realise it.
The grand final was screened live in a two-hour special direct from the Logan Campbell Centre on Friday 26 August.
This was the fifth year running of Maori Television’s flagship live karaoke show which has continued to increase in popularity over the years.
