Angela Stone’s New Clothing Range Debuts At Fundraiser

PRESS RELEASE

Angela Stone’s New Clothing Range Debuts At Fashion Week Fundraiser For Christchurch

Monday 29th August, 2011

Leading New Zealand fashion stylist Angela Stone has designed a new clothing range that will debut on the catwalk at Fashion Week this Friday, as part of the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Show.

Stone’s range, which is manufactured in Christchurch, will show alongside other top Christchurch designers including Kathryn Leah Payne, Sakaguchi, Caroline Moore, Mister, and Eclipse.

While most of the collections being showcased at Fashion Week are for winter 2012, Stone has debuted with a summer 2012 range, because she says it’s already been a “long winter” for Christchurch.

“My designs are definitely focused on colour and vibrancy, not only because after years of fashion styling I have seen women come alive when they are styled in bold colours that are right for their skin tone, but also because I wanted a sense of the spirit and colour of Christchurch that has prevailed to come through in my collection.”

“The range I have designed is for living in the moment, it’s about fun and frivolity,” says Stone. “I took my inspiration from the spirit that has shone through in my fellow Cantabrians despite everything we have been through – somehow we have come out of it still smiling, and really appreciating the value of life and living,” she says.

As a leading stylist and fashion consultant for over 20 years, Stone says she has developed a strong sense of what garments look best on her clients, and a natural progression was to come up with her own designs based on what she has learned from dressing thousands of women.

“To me, the best dressed woman is one whose clothing expresses her femininity and her elegance, while still maintaining a hint of fun, and that’s what I feel I have reflected in my designs.”

The Angela Stone range will initially be available for purchase at Curate, the new fashion gallery about to open in the heart of the Britomart precinct. Stone has also made the unique decision to sell her range online exclusively through her website www.angelastone.co.nz – an idea inspired by the fact that Christchurch has lost its fashion high street.

“We no longer have the luxury of being able to go shopping for quality garments in Christchurch, because most of our high end fashion stores were either destroyed or are located in the red zone,” Stone says. “So, I am taking my range online so that Christchurch women can still buy quality clothing, and of course it occurred to me that there are other women out there who don’t have time to go clothes shopping, yet still like to look their best, which is often why they will hire a stylist in the first place!”

The Christchurch Earthquake Appeal show at NZ Fashion Week will raise funds for the Red Cross Earthquake Appeal and awareness of the help Christchurch will continue to require for some time. It will also re-introduce Christchurch designers to the fashion community and offer the opportunity to support Christchurch designers by purchasing from their collections.
