Urewera: Four year anniversary celebration of struggle

Four year anniversary celebration of struggle

Performance on the 14th October 2011

‘An amazing line-up of musicians including Riki Gooch, ImonStarr, Mara TK, and Benny Tones will play a free gig at the Southern Cross on Friday, October 14th to celebrate the solidarity and support given to the many people involved in the Urewera case over the past four years. This concert is an opportunity to get together to celebrate 4 years of resistance and to demand that the four remaining people have their charges dropped too,’ said Jessie Moss, organiser of the event.

‘The creative community - musicians and artists in Aotearoa - could see the injustice of this case from day one. They stood strong playing numerous fundraising and awareness raising concerts like the huge E TU! concert in Wellington and contributed to the 'Freedom fighting Anthems' CD.’

‘The raids into Tuhoe and communities across the country happened four years ago and the struggle for justice and freedom continues.Four people are still facing charges, despite the case against 13 others collapsing. The people of Ruatoki still await an apology for the para-military invasion of their home.’

‘Music has always been an essential part of the struggle for liberation; it simultaneously tells the stories of injustice and gives us momentum to continue on the path to freedom. We warmly invite all freedom fighters, lovers of justice and fellow travelers to join us in celebration and commemoration as we mark the fourth anniversary of the State Terror Raids.’
