Naughty By Nature Announce 20th Anniversary Show

Hip Hop Kings, Naughty By Nature are teaming up again for their 20th Anniversary Tour. Performing all of their greatest hits along with new material from their upcoming album, Anthem Inc., Naughty By Nature are back in business.

Formed in 1986 while the boys were still in high school this Grammy Award winning, platinum-album selling, New Jersey super-group began by performing at talent shows. They were discovered by Queen Latifah who signed the group to her management company and helped them land a record deal with Tommy Boy Records and in 1991 Naughty by Nature's self-titled debut album produced their first top ten hit, O.P.P.

They went on to produce a number of albums with 19 Naughty III (1993) going platinum and Poverty's Paradise (1995) receiving a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. Naughty By Nature then disappeared on a recording hiatus of several years but have now returned with their undeniably classic, hand-raising, life affirming, HipHop music and a new album.

Despite a number of album releases in the nineties and some trouble with the authorities, Naughty By Nature's master lyricist Treach says "We wouldn't have reunited if we didn't think we could give people that authentic Naughty feeling.” The band claims that their new album Anthem Inc. will "take you back...we've invented a new sound, a bunch of new flows and after being without an album for so long, we've got a lot of things to say".

PNC (aka Sam Hansen) is one of todays most talked about artist in Aotearoa Hip-hop. His fluid flow has drawn comparisons to legends like Jay-Z and Notorious BIG but don’t get it twisted; his brand of Hip-hop is distinctly Aotearoa. He has already worked with seminal NZ artists such as Scribe, DJ Sir-Vere, David Dallas, Nesian Mystik, and Che Fu to name a few, guest appearances that have led people to credit him with arguably “the best flow in New Zealand”. Notable performances at festivals like Big Day Out and Rhythm n Vines have earned him a loyal following on the live circuit. He has also opened for international heavyweights like Snoop Dogg, Lupe Fiasco and Dizzee Rascal, and now his latest release Man On Wire is his musical tight-rope walk, delivering the perfect balance of depth and frivolity, rap and pop, madness and effortless cool.

YOUNG SID has quickly become one of NZ’s most charismatic and respected MC’s, firstly as one third of chart-topping crew Smashproof with Tyree and Deach and now blazing his own trail as a solo artist having released two of his own albums: The Truth and more recently What Doesn’t Kill Me.

In New York City he recorded with famed hip-hop producer Cochise (Remy Ma, Beatnuts) and learnt to hone his craft with such perfection, that upon his return to New Zealand he is becoming revered amongst his local peers by gracing a wide range of local mix CD projects and singles – including both Juse and Tyree's albums, DJ Sir-Vere's Major Flavours Australian video/title track Turn It Up, and the all-star line up on PNC's Who Better Than... remix. With a barrage of life experiences and a lyrical prowess, Young Sid is a force to be reckoned with and an excellent addition to the bill.

South Pacific Hip-Hop pioneer, key member of legendary DJ crew S.A.S, and universally respected nightclub, radio and Mix CD DJ/host, DJ SIR-VERE has spent the last six years extensively touring his Major Flavours brand through Australia, resulting in five well-received Australian editions of his never-ending Major Flavours Mix CD series. It’s being a massive year for Sir-Vere – on Mai FM everyday, a new TV show starting shortly, touring NZ and Australia and even managed to add in another Major Flavours 2011 release.

Rocking crowds with both turntables and a microphone, and having completed slots opening for artists ranging from The Pussycat Dolls, Missy Elliot, DJ Premier and Raekwon - whether he's serving commercial anthems or underground bangers, you get exactly what you need. It's safe to say this DJ ain't half-stepping; and will have his cake and eat it. Heck, he might even offer you a slice!
