Shapeshifter Return Home After Six Months Touring

Shapeshifter Return Home After Six Months Touring Europe And The UK To Douse Kiwi Crowds With Their Formidable Live Show This Summer.

This summer Shapeshifter are playing four shows over the Christmas/New Year break, and in an inspired pairing they’re bringing with them reggae legend Horace Andy and his band Dub Asante. These shows represent a rare opportunity to witness the high-energy dance music of one of the most in-demand live acts alongside deep roots music from reggae’s homeland of Jamaica in a classic Kiwi summer setting.Blazing a drum n’ bass trail burning bright with heavy soul and atmospheric dub, Shapeshifter have earned a reputation as pioneers of modern music, and they’re showing no signs of slowing down. They have a string of critically acclaimed albums to their name, and songs like ‘Dutchies’, ‘Bring Change’, ‘Long White Cloud’ and ‘Electric Dream’ have seared themselves into the ears of thousands, as the five-piece consistently sell out venues whenever and wherever they tour.

Horace Andy is a lion of a man. Possessing one of reggae’s most beautiful and distinctive voices, the Jamaican emerged as a major force in the 1970s when his collaborations with producer Coxsone Dodd and, later, Bunny Lee resulted in a series of songs now considered classics, such as ‘Skylarking’, ‘Every Tongue Shall Tell’ and ‘I’ve Got To Get Away’. In 1990 he began a long-standing collaboration with Massive Attack which resulted in him contributing to all five of their albums, most notably on the huge hits ‘Angel’ and ‘One Love’. Horace Andy is joined for these shows by his long-time band Dub Asante. From running t’ings inna strickly rub-a-dub style to laying down the sweetest of love songs, Horace Andy’s live performance is essential for music fans who want to experience the power of one of reggae music’s living legends.

Shapeshifter’s Sam Trevethick says “It will be an honour to play the same stage as Horace Andy. He is a bona fide reggae legend… For me, he shares the top of the podium with Bob Marley and Barrington Levy as one of the most important, distinctive and soul nourishing voices in the history of reggae music. His live show with Dub Asante is incredible, classics and new school flavours are blended in a fully live dancefloor style. I was blown away at Womad! Can’t wait!”
