All Blacks get overnight stamp of approval
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
New Zealand Post teams have been working through the night to create a special collectors' stamp sheet to celebrate New Zealand winning the Rugby World Cup. The RWC 2011 Champions Stamp Sheet hit the printing presses within minutes of the final whistle at last night’s Rugby World Cup 2011 final.
“After the victory we cranked up the presses and printed right through the night so New Zealanders can celebrate this victory with a limited edition collectors' stamp sheet,” Ivor Masters, who heads New Zealand Post’s stamp and coin business, said.
“This unique product will hit the shops in main centres on Tuesday, rolling out across the whole country by the middle of this week. This is the fastest we have ever turned around a stamp release.
“We’re pulling out all the stops because this is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of our country not only hosting, but also winning, this top sporting prize."
The stamp sheet features six of the official All Black stamps alongside a team portrait snapped just moments after the final whistle blew.
“Under the photo we’ve included the final score from this epic sporting event - which for the sake of anyone who’s been in a coma - was New Zealand 8, France 7.
“A lot of people will want these as personal mementoes, and they’ve been designed to display beautifully in a frame or to preserve for future generations.
“Meanwhile some of us, myself included, won’t be able to resist buying spare sheets of these stamps to send to friends and family overseas who supported other teams, as a gentle reminder of who won.
“Which for the record was us. New Zealand. The world champion All Blacks,” Ivor Masters added.
The RWC 2011 Champions Stamp
Sheet is an official licensed product produced in
partnership with the NZRU and RWC 2011. The stamp sheets
will be available from Tuesday this week from selected
PostShops, or alternatively you can avoid disappointment by
visiting nzpost.co.nz/stamps to purchase the
stamps. Each stamp sheet features six official $1.90 All
Blacks stamps, a victory photo from the World Cup final and
the final score recorded for posterity. The stamp sheets
are suitable for framing, display, private collections or
sarcastically gifting to Wallabies supporters. The stamp
sheets will retail for $19.90.
The stamp sheet will be available from
selected PostShops in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch,
Dunedin, Palmerston North and Whanganui on Tuesday, followed
by all other PostShops around the country receiving the
stamp sheets on Wednesday.
Other products in New Zealand Post’s
RWC 2011 and All Blacks stamp range includes: New
Zealand’s first 3D stamp – the Webb Ellis Cup, the RWC
2011 Webb Ellis Cup coin, and two All Blacks coins. These
are also available from PostShops and online at nzpost.co.nz/stamps and nzpost.co.nz/coins.
