Meryl Streep Unveils The Iron Lady

Yesterday, in sight of London's Houses of Parliament, Meryl Streep and Director Phyllida Lloyd unveiled the much anticipated final poster for THE IRON LADY - the upcoming feature film featuring Meryl Streep in the lead role of Margaret Thatcher.

THE IRON LADY depicts the compelling story of Britain's ex-Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, a woman who smashed through the barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male-dominated world. The story concerns power and the price that is paid for power, and is a surprising and intimate portrait of an extraordinary and complex woman.

The film stars Academy Award-winners Meryl Streep as Lady Thatcher and Jim Broadbent as Denis Thatcher. Their young selves are played by Alexandra Roach and Harry Lloyd.

The film is written by award-winning writer Abi Morgan (SHAME, THE HOUR, SEX TRAFFIC, BRICK LANE), and directed by Phyllida Lloyd CBE (MAMMA MIA!).

One of the most successful actors in Hollywood, Meryl Streep has been nominated for 16 Oscars, of which she's won 2, and 25 Golden Globes, of which she's won 7. It is fitting that no one is more suited to attempt to embody the most important and controversial female politician of recent history - Margaret Thatcher.

Footage and images from this launch are available internationally through Reuters, AP, Getty, Press Association, Capitol Pictures and UPPA.

Hoyts Distribution will release THE IRON LADY in cinemas across New Zealand on 26 December, 2011.
