Garden party just the ticket for Election Day

Garden party just the ticket for Election Day

21 November 2011

An election-day garden party at Tupare will be an opportunity to plan ahead for Christmas while stepping back in time.

The free event, which runs from 9am to noon at the New Plymouth heritage property on Saturday, will include:

• Hand-made arts and crafts and seasonal and local produce on sale by Taranaki Farmers Market and other local growers and craftspeople.
• Live Elizabethan music, song and dance by The Queens Companie.
• Free tours of the Tupare homestead, which will be in full Christmas regalia courtesy of the New Plymouth Floral Art Club.

“It’s an excellent opportunity to do some Christmas shopping while enjoying the unique atmosphere of Tupare,” says the Taranaki Regional Council’s Regional Gardens Manager, Greg Rine.

“Regular visitors to Tupare know that you enter another world when you go down the driveway, and The Queen’s Companie will add to the magic.”

There is a polling station at Mangorei School, just up the road from Tupare.

The market day is part of a year-round programme of free events at Tupare, Hollard Gardens and Pukeiti, the three heritage gardens owned and managed by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region.
