MOTAT LIGHTS UP CHRISTMAS
SPIRIT
Motat Nights, Christmas
Lights
The carols have begun, the lights have been hung, the gifts are being chosen ... Christmas has arrived at MOTAT!
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings until December 24, MOTAT visitors can look forward to celebrating the magic of Christmas at ‘MOTAT Nights, Christmas Lights.’
MOTAT Nights, Christmas Lights is a festive family event open from 8pm to 11pm with lots to see and do. MOTAT’s Victorian Village will be brightly lit with Christmas lights, live entertainment, music, night tram rides and beautiful Christmas displays.
MOTAT Museum Director Jeremy Hubbard says the event is all about sharing the Christmas spirit with friends and family, and the wider community.
“There will be Victorian games to join in on and traditional Christmas treats on sale for the whole family to enjoy such as mulled wine for the adults and shortbread for the kids,” said Mr Hubbard.
Entry to MOTAT Nights, Christmas Lights is by gold coin donation and all proceeds will go towards purchasing children’s gifts for charity, to be donated to the Auckland City Mission and Ronald McDonald House Auckland in MOTAT’s ‘Give and you shall receive’ Christmas programme.
GIVE AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE AT MOTAT
Continuing the spirit of
Christmas, until 24 December, instead of paying an admission
fee visitors can purchase a gift from MOTAT’s gift shop,
and in doing so will give back to those in need.
All
donated gifts will be given to Auckland City Mission and
Ronald McDonald House Auckland to help out families in need
this Christmas.
Ronald McDonald House Auckland CEO, Wayne Howett says he is moved by MOTAT’s generous offer.
“Ronald McDonald House is an amazing place to be around Christmas with all our families celebrating together, but it can also be quite tough as parents struggle to get time out to go and get presents for their children.
We will have many families away from home, staying with us on Christmas so it’s really neat that MOTAT is making this wonderful initiative to lift their spirits on behalf of the community,” says Mr Howett.
Auckland City Mission fundraiser, James Holt was blown away by the idea of being able to provide clients with a myriad of MOTAT gifts.
“We are very much looking forward to sharing the Christmas spirit with Aucklanders who aren’t so lucky. There is something very special about giving a gift to someone on Christmas, especially when our clients don’t often receive them.”
If you would like to celebrate this Christmas in a magical way that also helps those less fortunate, head down to MOTAT with your family before Christmas.
