The Court Theatre To Host Invited Guests To Special Launch Gala This Week
Around 400 guests will attend a black tie gala at the new Court Theatre this Wednesday 7th December.
The theatre, now located on Bernard Street in Addington, will open to the public on Saturday 10th December to a sold out house, with the new play by Roger Hall, “A Shortcut to Happiness”.
The Court’s Chief Executive Philip Aldridge says the incredibly hard work and long hours put in by the Court staff, excellent management by the project manager Arrow who worked closely with the Court architect Stewart Ross, and immense support from a large number of individuals, companies and sponsors (including grants from trusts and the government), means the rebuild has been completed on time and on budget.
“We first saw the site in early March, the build started just 16 weeks ago we are ready to open,” he says.
Guests on Wednesday include representatives of major sponsors and donors, key figures in the arts and the city including Mayor Bob Parker, and central government. Playwright Roger Hall will also attend and he will return to The Court on Saturday for the opening night.
At a Court staff launch at the new theatre on Sunday 5 December, set designer Tony Geddes and actor Geoffrey Heath were recognised with appointments as Associates of the Court Theatre, joining Yvonne Martin, Paul Barrett, Stuart Alderton, Joe Hayes, Brian Gray, Elric Hooper, Margaret McConney, Lynda Milligan, Derek Hargreaves and Judie Douglass.
