Kids will love constructing their own Christmas creations at ‘Make and Take,’ MOTAT’s weekend Christmas experience.

Giving kids the chance to create their own paper mache snowmen, Christmas cards and mini-stockings, ‘Make and Take’ is the perfect weekend out in the lead up to Christmas.

‘Make and Take’ is free with your entry to MOTAT and will run every Saturday and Sunday from 10am - 4.30pm until December 24.

With a new exciting activity on offer each week, come and join in the fun!

MOTAT Nights, Christmas Lights

The carols have begun, the lights have been hung, the gifts are being chosen... Christmas has arrived at MOTAT!

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings until December 24, MOTAT visitors can look forward to celebrating the magic of Christmas at ‘MOTAT Nights, Christmas Lights.’

MOTAT Nights, Christmas Lights is a festive family event open from 8pm to 11pm with lots to see and do. MOTAT’s Victorian Village will be brightly lit with Christmas lights, live entertainment, music, night tram rides and beautiful Christmas displays.

Entry to MOTAT Nights, Christmas Lights is by gold coin donation and all proceeds will go towards purchasing children’s gifts for charity, to be donated to the Auckland City Mission and Ronald McDonald House Auckland in MOTAT’s ‘Give and you shall receive’ Christmas programme.

Give and You Shall Receive

MOTAT is spreading the spirit of Christmas this year, full throttle! Up until December 24 instead of paying an admission fee, visitors can purchase a gift from MOTAT’s gift shop, which will be gifted to someone less fortunate for Christmas.

All donated gifts will be given to Auckland City Mission and Ronald McDonald House Auckland to help out families in need this holiday season.

If you would like to celebrate this Christmas in a magical way that also helps those less fortunate, head down to MOTAT with your family before Christmas.

Playing With Light

Have you ever wondered how light works and what it is used for?

Believe it or not, light has a number of roles, from medicine to communications and security.

MOTAT’s new Playing with Light exhibition, on now until 6 February 2012, is an inspiring travelling exhibition from Western Australia's leading science education institution 'Scitech' that challenges the way we think about light, offering over twenty exciting and scientific interactive displays.

Visitors to Playing with Light will love colouring in an entire wall with virtual paintbrushes, entering the crazy world of a toy kaleidoscope and inspecting the futuristic concept of holograms.

A mind-boggling experience for all ages, MOTAT's Playing with Light is the perfect day out for the whole family.

See a blacksmith in action!

Step back in time and experience history in action at MOTAT’s blacksmith forge every Sunday from 10am – 5pm and at ‘MOTAT Nights, Christmas Lights’, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8pm - 11pm until 24 December.

MOTAT’s resident Blacksmith Andrew Hooper will show you the tricks of the trade including how to make horseshoes and other historic tools in his blacksmith’s forge in MOTAT’s Victorian Village.

Kids will be amazed by how easily Andrew can bend, hammer and shape hard metal into tools and cooking utensils.

MOTAT’s Victorian Village brings to life Auckland in the mid to late 1800's. The buildings, set in glorious gardens, encircle the Village Green and include the blacksmith’s forge and a chapel.

Bisected by tram lines, the streetscape beyond the Village includes a garage, general store, music shop and school house for your viewing pleasure. Visitors love taking a look at the restored buildings filled with collection objects, models and furnishings reflecting what life was like in early Auckland.
