NZ writing team crack Amazon’s bestseller list

NZ father-and-son writing team crack Amazon’s bestseller list with their thriller novel

A new release international conspiracy novel co-authored by New Zealand father-and-son writing team Lance and James Morcan has this week entered Amazon’s top five bestseller list in the Spy Stories category.

Their 5 Star-rated novel, The Ninth Orphan, published in August by Sterling Gate Books, is currently ranked No. 3 for Amazon books (trade paperbacks and ebooks) and No. 4 for Amazon’s Kindle ebooks. More significantly, the novel is ranked No. 272 for all books (fiction and non-fiction) in Amazon’s paid store.

The results put the Morcans ahead of such acclaimed writers as John le Carre and Lee Child on Amazon’s lists.

On December 19, The Ninth Orphan reached No.3 on Amazon’s ‘Movers & Shakers’ site as one of the biggest gainers for all books in its Kindle Store in the previous 24hrs.

The results come as no surprise to the Morcans who say they have always believed in their novel. Papamoa-based Lance Morcan says he and James felt from the outset the novel was highly commercial.

“The Ninth Orphan is an action-filled and controversial thriller which merges fact with fiction,” he says. “It tackles genetic selection, mind control, secret societies and a chase around the globe, and also has a poignant, romantic sub-plot so appeals equally to male and female readers.”

The Ninth Orphan is the first in a planned trilogy. The prequel will be released in 2012.

Lance and his Sydney-based son James’ second book, a historical adventure-romance titled Fiji: A Novel, was published recently and is also now available as a trade paperback and ebook on Amazon.

The Morcans, who are also screenwriters and film producers, are adapting both novels to feature film screenplays with a view to making them into movies through their production company, Morcan Motion Pictures.
