Experience the first-ever tour of a fine art exhibition created for movie theatre audiences, coming to New Zealand cinemas in February.
Kiwi art enthusiasts will be able to experience an HD showcase of the once-in-a-lifetime exhibition Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan, captured at London’s National Gallery, from 16 – 29 February at select cinemas around the country.
The landmark exhibition, which cannot tour due to the fragility of the paintings, has sold out in London. Crowds lined up daily at dawn to snatch the few remaining tickets to the gallery presentation, with tickets re-selling at $700 apiece.
LEONARDO LIVE offers an unprecedented opportunity for audiences around the world to experience a fine collection of da Vinci masterpieces, revealed in astonishing detail through close-up footage.
The 100-minute HD capture is hosted by highly respected art historian and broadcaster Tim Marlow and presenter Mariella Frostrup. The pair explore the exhibition on opening night and provide detailed examinations and in-depth commentary of da Vinci’s paintings, as well as interview a selection of special guests and experts.
Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan brings together the largest ever number of da Vinci’s rare surviving paintings and some international loans that have never before travelled, including the newly discovered, never-before-publicly exhibited, painting Salvator Mundi. The exhibition features another first, with the two versions of da Vinci’s Virgin of the Rocks – belonging to the National Gallery and the Louvre – being exhibited together.
The final part of the exhibition features a near-contemporary, full-scale copy of the artist’s famous Last Supper, on loan from the Royal Academy. Seen alongside all the surviving preparatory drawings made the artist for the work, visitors will discover how such a large-scale painting was designed and executed.
LEONARDO LIVE will play from 16-29 February only – bookings highly recommended.
