Town On Wheels Is Going Digital

“Population drift” is fast becoming an enviable lifestyle especially for members of what is the equivalent of a New Zealand town on wheels.

The New Zealand Motor Caravan Association has over 40,000 plus individual members equivalent in population numbers to the Kapiti Coast or Whanganui.While enjoying the motor caravanner lifestyle members are also increasingly benefiting from on board mobile technology such as digital television.

For West Coast NZMCA members the Pugh family; Sharon, young Harry, Michael and their dog Coco, Going Digital has meant they are now enjoying better pictures; more channels and new services such as electronic program guides virtually anywhere in New Zealand by using a satellite dish and set top box.

While some areas offer a terrestrial or satellite service, satellite reception is available virtually anywhere in NZ.

“Going Digital does not mean changing the current TV in your motorhome. Virtually any older TV can go digital with the addition of a set top box and the appropriate aerial for the area you are travelling through or staying in for a while,” said Going Digital General Manager Greg Harford.

“But getting away from it all should now include plans to go digital as for example it is now less than nine months before the West Coast and Hawkes Bay cease analogue TV transmission.

“These two regions will lead the country as they go digital first on Sunday 30 September 2012, with the rest of New Zealand progressively digital by December 2013. The New Year is a perfect time to go digital in your motorhome or caravan before the phased roll out of digital television gets underway.”
