2012 Hope you had a bit of a summer break at least!
Bit o' turkey in ya etc! We did here even though we are
normally 'pescatarians' - it is my one Free Day to gobble
some Gobble as it were... actually it lasts a few days as
who can say no to a turkey sandwich! Heaven on
earth.
We had time to reflect on the amazing year of
2011 with Adele's phenomenal success in NZ and around the
world. '21' holds the Number One album spot at the start of
this year firmly holding on to the crown of Longest Running
Number One Album in NZ's history... News from her camp is
that she is recovering well from the throat surgery and she
is super excited about attending the Grammys - where she is
nominated for 6 awards.
And so we lurch into 2012 with
a bit of a plan... no artists for us at Big Day Out this
year (first time in..? ..12 years I think... ) but Laneway
we have stacked up goodness of The Horrors, SBTRKT, Glasser
and Twin Shadow. How I'm going to recognise SBTRKT at the
airport - I have NO IDEA!! Actually ... I do have a spare
copy of the LP here - hmm.. happy to 'exchange' that with
the first person that can email me a photo of SBTRKT sans
mask!

Jan10 4AD NEW SIGNING: GRIMES - NEW ALBUM & MP3
Welcoming you into 2012 New Release Land with this mighty little gem…..
Grimes will release her new album
Visions this March 2012 via 4AD/Rhythmethod.
Grimes is
the inventive work of Claire Boucher, a project that has
gained notoriety since its inception back in early-2010.
Moving to Montreal from Vancouver in 2006, she developed
Grimes among the city’s burgeoning DIY scene; a scene
where both punk ethos and pop music collide, resulting in a
distinct sense of community, religiosity and psychedelic
revelry. Also a prolific force, Visions will be her fourth
release in less than two years and countless shows have been
performed in this time, both helping to build much intrigue
as to what’s next – “She’s blossoming and developing
almost more quickly than we can keep track of… (She) could
very well be poised for a meteoric rise with the release of
her next full length.” (Pitchfork).
Claire describes
her work as, “the only means through which I can be fully
expressive. It is both an ethereal escape from, and a
violent embrace of, my experience. The creative process is a
quest for the ultimate sensual, mystical and cathartic
experience and the vehicle for my psychic purging. Visions
was conceived in a period of self-imposed cloistering during
which time I did not see daylight.”

Dec13 VIDEO: HOWLER – ‘BACK OF YOUR
NECK’
Filed under: Howler, mp3, Rhythmethod, Rough Trade, video | Edit | by Lisa | Comments
Howler have released a video
for their new single ‘Back of Your Neck’ (directed by
Robert Semmer). In it the boys take us on a tour of the
backstreets, house parties, gigs and supermarkets of their
hometown Minneapolis – in all its grainy, Super 8 glory.
The video premiered on Rolling Stone, whom singer Jordan
Gatesmith told: “We made this video with our good friend
Rob. He got us drunk, held us in his arms and told us it
would be alright. And it was… It was.”
Howler will
release their debut album America Give Up on 30
January 2012 via Rough Trade/Rhythmethod.

Of Your Neck’ here.
