Sunny Side up at Carter!
Looking for the
sunnyside of life? … even if the weather’s a bit dodgy?
Help you we can. Carter Observatory has lots of fun kids
activities running during the school holidays, as well as
regular screenings of our new planetarium show “Wildest
Weather in the Solar System” at 11am, 1pm and 3pm each day
with additional showings at 7pm on our late night Tuesdays
and Saturdays.
Bring the kids and gain a new
perspective on summer, along with having some fun of course!
Our solar scramble gallery trail will keep kids occupied as
they seek the mystery word … or they can tell us what they
love to do in summer and enter our competition. Winners
receive a star pass so they can come back to Carter as much
as they like!
For those with a bit more time, between
10:30 – 12:30 and 2:00 - 4:00 kids can create their own
sundial or Sun on a stick to take home in our drop in
workshops. These workshops will run on weekdays from now
until 27 January.
“As our Earth continues its long
journey around the Sun, it gives us the long summer days
that we enjoy. It’s a great time to visit Carter and
learn a bit more about Earth’s very own star,” says Dr
Claire Bretherton, Public Programmes and Education
Manager.
Carter will be offering locals a further
opportunity to visit with half price entry to celebrate
Wellington Anniversary Day on Monday 23 January. Residents
of the greater Wellington Region are asked to present proof
of residence in order to access the special
rate.
There’s always something happening at Carter
and we have several exciting initiatives on our radar this
year. Keep in touch by visiting our website for more

Imagine how many
times families would hear ‘Are we there yet?’ on a drive
to visit the Sun, a trip that would take 170
years.
Make a day of it! Combine a
visit to Carter with a ride on the Cable Car and a walk
through the Botanic Garden.
Free
parking for two hours is available in the Botanic Garden car
park, at the top of the Cable Car on Upland
Road.
