'AHoriBuzz - Turnaround' Music Video Released

Thanks to NZ on Air and the selfless donation of time and talent from those in the film industry, AHoriBuzz’s first music video for second single, “Turnaround” has been produced.

Renowned for their captivating and idiosyncratic performances, AHoriBuzz is the brainchild of Aaron Tokona (Cairo Knife Fight / Weta) who steers the outfit on vocals, MPC and guitar.

The video crew, led by up-and-coming director, Jessica Sanderson, included special effects make-up artist from Weta, Dara Wakely; as well as actor, Taungaroa Emile (No.2 and Once Were Warriors). Jon Baxter, known for his treatment of feature film The Strength of Water, also contributed to the music video through post-production work.

Sanderson (grand-daughter of the late kiwi actor, Martyn Sanderson) wrote the short narrative for the music video, which features a choreographed fight scene by Allan Henry, (a ‘goblin’ on The Hobbit) and parkour/free-running expert, Terence Turner.

“There were a whole range of people who came together to make this video happen, most of whom donated their time, it’s awesome”, says Sanderson. “I think it reflects the love people have for Aaron and his music...“Turnaround” is a great track; it’s both deeply sad and celebratory, it’s like laughing and crying all at the same time."

Tokona describes the song as one about transformation: “Basically the song is about a guy who’s done a lot to mess up his life. But ultimately, the journey is really about forgiving himself and finding the courage to move past his mistakes."

Sanderson describes the video as a blend of “...kung-fu and fantasy, with a bit of ‘Billy-T James, meets Aaron Tokona’ humour…I hope people enjoy the dark and funny scenes we’ve created.”

AHoriBuzz are next playing live at Summer Sunday on January 29 (Auckland Anniversary Weekend) in Matakana alongside Kora, Fly My Pretties, Little Bushman, Tahuna Breaks, Electric Wire Hustle, The Nudge and @Peace.

As a live set, Tokona, described as ‘ The Maori Jimi Hendrix’, is joined by Riki Neihana Gooch (Trinity Roots and Eru Dangerspiel) and LA Mitchell (Fly My Pretties, Dukes).
