Christchurch Playhouse wins Mitre 10 Facebook competition
In the midst of a city full of construction projects, one small building has won its own DIY accolades.
Christchurch woman Ally Bowden has been announced winner of Mitre 10’s Plunket Playhouse Facebook competition after more than 1,850 people voted her double-storey playhouse the favourite.
The team at Mitre 10 MEGA Hornby presented Ally and her family with $5,000 of gift cards on Saturday.
Mitre 10’s Plunket Playhouse competition was launched in November last year as part of the Big Little Playhouse Project, with Mitre 10 stores across the country designing and building their own Playhouses, which were donated to local Plunket clinics.
DIY enthusiasts across the country were also encouraged to design and build their own Playhouses and enter them on Mitre 10’s facebook page, where people could vote for their favourites.
The family pulled out all the stops to publicise Ally’s Playhouse, even campaigning in Cashel Street with signs for votes.
Their playhouse was voted the winner from 63 entries which received an impressive 6,311 votes collectively. The family is planning a new bathroom and the gift cards will go a long way towards helping with renovations.
Facebook voter Kate Wynyard commented:
“The main thing is there are a whole lot of lucky kids out there with awesome new playhouses. Good one Mitre 10 for running a great comp to get parents creative juices flowing, and kids out of the house and into the backyard with their imaginations firing! Congrats to everyone that entered!”
