Canterbury Film Society 2012 programme announced!

Canterbury Film Society is back – and incredibly pleased to be able to offer a full season of films in 2012. It is one of our most appealing programmes to date, with some film noir classics, old Aussie gems, two ‘60s Czech rarities, contemporary Chinese films, and several NZ premieres including a programme of shorts by Iranian director Kamran Shirdel, Latin American documentaries made by film society members in Chile and Ecuador, and a touching Brazilian film made in one of the worst favelas. Plus, don’t forget the Bruno Lawrence special Blerta Revisited and Woodenhead by the ‘best film’ winner of this year’s Aotearoa Film and Television Awards, Florian Habicht.

We’re also delighted to be able to screen at Christchurch’s sole remaining independent cinema, the Hollywood in Sumner, which has been in operation since 1938. We hope the journey won’t be a deterrent: a 5:51 bus from the city will get you to the cinema in time for our 6:30 screenings, and we’ll help sort out some carpooling options as well – and consider ourselves lucky that the film society needn’t be in a shopping mall.

The season will kick off at 6:30pm on March 12th with Joan Crawford starring in the 1945 noir Mildred Pierce.

For all the details, please see our website: http://canterburyfilmsocietyorg.nz/

We'll also be active on Facebook this year: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Canterbury-Film-Society/118903711480526

We took a bit of a hit last year, like a lot of people and organisations, so could really use all of your help to spread the word!
