Xanthe White creates intrigue around Ellerslie International Flower Show
With little over a month to go, there is much anticipation and interest around Xanthe White’s creation for the 2012 Ellerslie International Flower show. This year, she is one of four top New Zealand designers to be selected to exhibit in the exclusive Gold medal gardens, site GM1 (only open to previous gold award winners), which will be one of the main highlights of the show.
Daltons are proud to be sponsoring Xanthe’s creation, designed in response to the challenge posed; to ‘create an inner city garden for Christchurch’. This garden is designed as one which proposes a sustainable and contemporary vision but still responds to the built heritage of the city. Xanthe’s skilled display of planting along with the use of exquisite local stone demonstrates how living spaces can be both elegant and distinct and contemporary design does not have to be at the expense of interesting plant material.
Dalton’s is passionate about the horticulture industry and is proud to be involved with this garden that is the end result of plant breeders, great nurseries and quality landscaping. As a community focused NZ business they felt the synergy was perfect and with a relationship dating back to 2003 they knew she would create something beautiful considered and unique.
Asked about the garden, Colin Parker, GM for Daltons gave little away. “I’ve seen the plans and once again, Xanthe has come up with something that is unique and inspiring, yet realistic. You could actually see people emulating this as their garden, it’s very livable”.
This is the third time Daltons have sponsored Xanthe White at the Ellerslie International Flower Show. Previously they sponsored her 2003 ‘Kiwi Backyard’ garden which won Silver, and in 2004 the People’s Choice award for her garden, ‘Having it all with Daltons’. In total Xanthe has been involved in 4 different shows at Ellerslie and has won the ‘supreme award for design’. She has also exhibited at Chelsea International Flower Show, winning a Silver Gilt award in 2005 and a Silver in 2011.
