Auckland counts down to royal visit

Cunard’s newest luxury cruise liner, Queen Elizabeth will cast the royal spotlight on Auckland when she sails into the harbour on Monday February 20.

This will be the liner’s second visit to Auckland, in what is a special year of Diamond Jubilee celebrations for her namesake, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

At the equivalent of 21 storeys high, she’s sure to dwarf Princes Wharf where she will be docked until 8.00pm that evening.

This is the only Auckland stop this year for the Cunard fleet and part of Queen Elizabeth’s second World Voyage. From Auckland, she sets off for Wellington, followed by Dunedin, before heading across the Tasman to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

From there, she will make her way through Asia and back to her home port of Southampton in the United Kingdom.

This year’s visit by Queen Elizabeth comes ahead of next year’s first 12-day Royal Circumnavigation of New Zealand by sister ship, and Cunard’s flagship vessel, Queen Mary 2.

For more information visit www.cunardline.com.au or call 0800 543 431 for reservations within New Zealand.

Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth will enter the outskirts of Auckland Harbour on Monday February 20 at approximately 5.00am.

She will pass North Head at around 5.30am and be docked at Princes Wharf by 6.30am.

Coming into Auckland Harbour, the ship can be best viewed from vantage points including Devonport, North Head and Mechanics Bay.

She departs Auckland for Wellington at 8.00pm that evening.
