Legendary German Jazz Musician Tours To NZ

Legendary German jazz saxophonist and renowned composer Klaus Doldinger heads to New Zealand in April with his band Passport, performing concerts in Tauranga and Wellington.

Klaus Doldinger’s Passport performs at the 50th National Jazz Festival in Tauranga on Saturday 7 April and at Wellington’s The Front Room on Saturday 14 April.

Regarded as German jazz royalty, Klaus’ is also known for composing the music to the films Das Boot and The Never-ending Story. On his first tour to Australia, his opening act was ACDC!

Klaus has been performing for nearly 60 years and has toured to 50 countries, but in 2012 he will perform his first concerts in New Zealand. His band Passport was formed 40 years ago and is one of the most celebrated live jazz acts in Germany.

National Jazz Festival director Arne Herrmann is delighted to have secured Klaus Doldinger and Passport and says he is pleased to also be taking the acclaimed musician and his band to Wellington.

“He is a true legend in Germany. He plays a unique melodious style which weaves beautiful haunting melodies with the infectious rhythms inspired by his trips to Brazil and Morocco. It really is a treat to have Klaus and Passport coming to New Zealand.”

Presented in co-operation with the Goethe Institut with support from the The Federal Republic of Germany Foreign Office, Klaus Doldinger’s Passport performs at the National Jazz Festival in Tauranga on Saturday 7 April at the Festival Hall (Baycourt) and at The Front Room in Wellington on Saturday 14 April.
