Aussie Targets More Kiwi Glory

Aussie Targets More Kiwi Glory

MARCH 20, 2012: Dan Stauffer is a glutton for punishment.

Yes, the Australian superbike ace loves dishing out punishment to his Kiwi rivals and he’ll have another chance to do just that when he again crosses the Tasman Sea to have a crack at the fifth and final round of the New Zealand Superbike Championships in Taupo this weekend.

The Yamaha rider has been hard to beat this season, although he has not been able to campaign a full national championship series in New Zealand this year.

Riding for the Wanganui-based Bernard Racing Yamaha Team, Stauffer raced his way to victory at the final round of the Tri Series, on the public streets of Wanganui’s Cemetery Circuit on Boxing Day and then he won the day at round one of the New Zealand Superbike Championships at Ruapuna Park, in Christchurch, a fortnight later.

He returned from his Gold Coast home to race and win at the Battle of the Streets meeting in Paeroa in February, giving him a staggering three major outright wins from three starts in New Zealand this summer.

He’s hoping to continue that trend in the two superbike class races at Taupo on Sunday.

“He just loves coming here,” said Bernard Racing Yamaha Team boss Brian Bernard. “Dan loves the atmosphere in New Zealand, the people, the racing and the tracks.

“He’s won everything he’s entered here so far this season and he loves racing here, so why not do this final round? He has no chance of winning the title – having skipped rounds two, three and four – but he can still claim race wins.

“His goal is to end the season with a 100% record in New Zealand.

“I’m really looking forward to Taupo too. It’s going to be an awesome weekend,” said Bernard.
