NZ Film Commission Gets Behind the Next Generation

MEDIA RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Wednesday 28th March 2012

NZ Film Commission Gets Behind the Next Generation of Filmmakers

The New Zealand Film Commission is getting behind the Inspiring Stories Trust to help aspiring young filmmakers make movies about people and projects making a difference in their communities.

Two award winning filmmakers will travel the length and breadth of the country running workshops with the next generation of moviemakers.

The completed films will then be judged to find the best.

From April to June, the team will visit 23 centres around the country to run the workshops in secondary schools, hold community film screening evenings, and promote the Inspiring Stories Film Competition.

At the announcement event in Wellington last night, NZ Film Commission CEO Graeme Mason said he was “impressed with the ambition and achievement of the project in 2011, and is proud to support the development of young filmmakers throughout New Zealand.”

“It means we can further develop an innovative framework benefiting hundreds of young New Zealanders.” says Guy Ryan, CEO of Inspiring Stories Trust. “We are a tiny charitable Trust. The NZFC partnership adds so much to our capacity and reputation and we’re really grateful and excited about the journey ahead” he said.

Last year the workshops ran across 13 regions and brought together more than 200 participants, industry mentors and young Kiwis working to the theme ‘Making a Difference’.

Interested participants, schools and community groups are invited to register for the film competition, workshops, or community film screening events through the Inspiring Stories website – www.inspiringstoriesorg.nz.
