2012 Music Managers Awards - Prizes announced, Last week to nominate

There are a lot of misconceptions about what a music manager does so the Annual Music Managers Awards aims to recognise the reality… along with dispelling a few of the myths along the way.

The MMF and PPNZ have extended nominations till 8th of April for music managers that have shown excellence in the following categories.

Manager of the Year: Awarded to the Manager who has accomplished outstanding results for their artists in 2011.

International Achievement: Awarded to the Manager who has achieved exceptional results in an international territory with their artists in 2011.

Self Managed Artist: Awarded to the Self-Managed artist who has executed impressive work in managing their own musical career in 2011.

Upcoming Manager: Awarded to a new Manager that displays potential in the field.

Breakthrough Manager: Awarded to the Manager who has helped their artist burst on to the New Zealand Music scene.

Best Venue: Voted for by MMF members, the best venue is awarded to the venue who works in a dependable, honest partnership with the band and it's management to put on a successful show.

Best Independent Tour: Awarded to the Manager who has organised the best tour of 2011. Factors include the booking, the logistics and the promotion of the tour. NB: conditions apply

Online Achievement: The Internet has changed the music industry as we know it. This award aims to recognise work done by managers on social media and through other online channels.

Outside the Box Award: This award recognises new thinking and innovation in trying to get music into the ears of the listener. Those crazy hair brained schemes that are hailed as genius and those that are so bad they are good.

Industry Champion: This award voted for by the MMF Members, recognises an organisation that is dedicated to being an advocate and champion for the New Zealand Music Industry.

This year, for the first time, non MMF members are able to be nominated in any category. However, similar to the New Zealand Music Awards, non member nominees will be required to pay an entry fee which will include a 12 month membership to the MMF.

To nominate a manager, email lorraine@mmf.co.nz with the artist's name and the manager, along with the categories that you would like to nominate them for. The deadline for nominations has been extended to April 8th, 2012.

The nominations will be shortlisted by a panel of Music Industry experts and the finalists will be announced at the beginning of New Zealand Music Month. All winners will be celebrated at the awards ceremony on Wednesday 16 May at the Backbeat Bar in Auckland.
