NZ COMEDY TRUST PRESENTS
LAST LAUGHS
A BON VOYAGE TO THE 2012 FESTIVAL SEASON!

It may be the final event of the NZ International Comedy Festival, but it’s by no means a somber occasion. To those who feel like shedding a tear as the Comedy Festival draws the 2012 season to a close, we offer a happier alternative: Late Laughs - a night of comedy greatness to tide you over until next year!

One of New Zealand’s most loved comedians Te Radar (himself a winner of both The FRED Award and the Billy T Award) hosts this Best In Show event. This hilarious two-hour showcase offers up one more chance to see the best of the Festival’s local talent perform for your entertainment, and send off the Festival in style. And if that wasn’t enough, this is also the evening where the two biggest accolades in New Zealand comedy are awarded.

Firstly, there’s the Billy T Award, the steppingstone for young comedians to venture into stardom. Named in honour of New Zealand’s best-loved comedian, Billy T James, the Billy T Awards are an initiative of the NZ Comedy Trust that aims to encourage the continued growth of outstanding comedy in New Zealand. The objective of the award is to recognise and support up-and-coming kiwi comics with outstanding potential, and commitment to their comedy career.

The FRED Award, given to the New Zealand comedian whose show is judged the best local show in the Festival. The award is named in honour of ex-pat comedy icon John Clarke’s legendary kiwi character Fred Dagg and recognises the best Festival show by a New Zealand performer.

The FRED Award nominees will be announced during the Festival, the Billy T Award nominees have been announced already: Guy Williams, Rose Matafeo, Tevita Manukia, TJ McDonald and Tom Furniss. Make sure to see their solo one-hour shows during the Festival, and then check out their final bid for Billy T glory at Last Laughs, along with performances by the Fred nominees, to see who takes out the coveted prizes.

So raise your cups, mugs, glasses, or whatever drinking vessel you’re using and toast with end of the Festival with the best of the best showing you their best live on stage at Last Laughs.
