New P&O Cruises Ice Cream Flavour is Simply
Genius
A new ice cream flavour that has
brought a Kiwi classic and an all-time favourite together is
sure to have ice cream lovers talking when it launches
today.
P&O Cruises and New Zealand Natural Premium
Ice Cream are confident they are on to a winner with the new
P&O Cruises Chocolate Hokey Pokey, unveiled for the first
time onboard the Pacific Dawn in Brisbane today.
The new flavour was launched as part of a
commercial partnership between P&O Cruises and New Zealand
Natural which will see New Zealand Natural parlours added to
all ships in the P&O Cruises’ fleet.
Pacific Dawn
is the first ship to boast one of the New Zealand Natural
at-sea parlours, which have a brand new look and
feel.
The parlour was installed while the ship was
in drydock receiving an extreme makeover this month.
Shane Lamont, New Zealand Natural’s Managing
Director, expects P&O Cruises Chocolate Hokey Pokey will
fast become a top seller.
“Chocolate is the
second most popular flavour in New Zealand, followed closely
by Hokey Pokey which has been a Kiwi classic since it was
invented here 50 years ago so we think that by combining
them, we’re on to a winner,” Mr Lamont said.
Extensive market research went into developing the
new flavour, with experts trialling dozens of potential
combinations, but in the end the simple combination of
Chocolate and Hokey Pokey was a no brainer.
“We
believe sometimes the simplest ideas are best and this is
something that is uniquely Kiwi but holds mass appeal too.
Cruise ship passengers from Australasia will be able to have
their own little taste of Kiwiana,” Mr Lamont
said.
Passengers boarding the newly refurbished Pacific
Dawn today in Brisbane before it departs on a Pacific
Islands cruise were among the first to taste-test the
delicious new flavour.
As well as being
available onboard Pacific Dawn, the new flavour will be sold
at all 75 New Zealand Natural retail stores across Australia
and New Zealand from early June.
New Zealand
Natural ice cream parlours are being added to P&O Cruises’
ships Pacific Pearl and Pacific Jewel later this year.
Sture Myrmell, Vice President of Hotel Operations
for Carnival Australia which operates P&O Cruises, said it
was a great day to announce the new flavour, which has been
kept under lock and key while being developed at the New
Zealand Natural factory in Auckland.
“P&O
Cruises’ ships go through a huge amount of ice cream each
season and the onboard New Zealand Natural ice cream
parlours and flavour are sure to be a huge hit with our
passengers,” said Mr Myrmell.
“The popularity
of cruising holidays is booming in both Australia and New
Zealand and this partnership will only serve to strengthen
New Zealand Natural’s brand with P&O Cruises many
Australasian passengers.”
