CRC Speedshow features ultra fun roadsters

Among the hundreds of cars on display at this year’s CRC Speedshow are three brands of roadster sure to appeal to car enthusiasts looking for relatively affordable, sporty and enjoyable motoring.

Fraser Cars, Venom and Exocet are the three brands behind the line-up of fun roadsters and, according to CRC Speedshow promoter Keith Sharp each marque has its own attractions.

“Fraser Cars are well-established in New Zealand with hundreds of their quality handcrafted Lotus 7 replicas all over the country and the world,” says Sharp. “With so many Kiwi Fraser enthusiasts to join in with, this is a fantastic marque for those who like getting involved in gymkhanas, fun runs or a bit of racing.

“This year at CRC Speedshow, which runs 21 and 22 July at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland, the Fraser Cars’ team has two examples of their popular Clubman model available to test drive in the Ezybuy Car Auctions live action arena. Or, if you prefer, you can be taken for a spin by one of their experts to see how you like riding in these low-slung roadsters.”

The latest Fraser Customs motorbike also goes on display at CRC Speedshow, highlighting the custom division launched last year at the Fraser Cars operation in Beach Haven, Auckland.

Fraser Cars’ managing director Scott Tristram says: “We are really excited to be unveiling the latest motorbike by Fraser Customs; these bespoke creations are so much fun. We take a vision and turn it into a reality, which always exceeds people’s expectations.”

Tristram adds: “One lucky CRC Speedshow visitor will win a day driving a handcrafted Fraser Clubman S. Come and see us at the show to fill in an entry form.”

Tauranga’s Venom Roadsters is a relatively new operation which introduces the incredible Backdraft Racing roadster to the New Zealand market. The sleek two-door roadsters are hand-built in South Africa and Venom Roadsters’ director Dave Dickinson says there are numerous options for engines, colour and interiors.

“The Backdraft Racing demonstrator is at CRC Speedshow in July so people can see this is a classic yet modern, high performance sports car,” says Dickinson. “The engine options alone take some consideration – small or big block Fords with fuel injection or Roush supercharged versions, matched to either five or six speed Tremec gearboxes. Venom provides a complete order to delivery service, helping our clients through every step of the process. We’re looking forward to showing Kiwi sports car fans how well the Backdraft roadster compares others on the market.”

Also new to the New Zealand market and making its CRC Speedshow debut is the Exocet kit car.

“The Exocet is an exo-skeletal kit car which uses running gear from a Mazda MX5,” says director and mechanical engineer Tom Carpenter. “Exocet New Zealand came about when I wanted to import an Exocet kit from the UK to build and enjoy in New Zealand, but with the UK developer only just keeping up with local demand, it was a logical step to start manufacturing them here in New Zealand.”

Fully road legal, the Exocet is the most successful and affordable kit produced by the highly-experienced Mills Extreme Vehicles (MEV) in the UK. Carpenter will display the first Exocet car currently being assembled locally.

This year CRC Speedshow also features Jetblack, the New Zealand-led challenge for the world land speed record with their 13-metre long concept car, the New Zealand Hot Rod Association 50th anniversary national hot rod show and a huge line-up of new cars and motorbikes from Mazda, Nissan, Ducati, Suzuki, Ford, Chrysler, Jeep and Harley-Davidson. News and information about CRC Speedshow is updated on the website, www.speedshow.co.nz, on a regular basis or follow the show on Facebook and Twitter.
