Break Dancing Battle Making Its Way to Our Shores

Kiwi breakdancing enthusiasts are soon to battle it out in an action packed B-Boy duel at the Red Bull BC One Cypher where they’ll showcase their moves in front of a panel of legendary judges.

Red Bull BC One Cypher is a preliminary competition round which gives two B-Boys or B-Girls the chance to battle their way onto the Red Bull BC One Asia Pacific Qualifier, held in New Zealand for the first time later this year, with the ultimate goal of being named World B-Boy Champion at the world final in Rio de Janeiro in December this year.

The Red Bull BC One Cyphers will be held at Auckland’s Zeal West on Friday 25th of May and Zeal Welly in Wellington on Saturday 26th of May.

Dancers will have the chance to show their moves in front of legendary judges, Kiwi B-Boy pioneers Douglas ‘Swervone’ Wright, Robert ‘Mayhem’ Ramsey and Sen ‘Khmer’ Thong.

Competitors will battle it out in a series of 1-on-1 knock out rounds, where they will have to perform three solo B-boy moves to the beats that Red Bull Thre3Style 2011 Champion, ‘DJ Spell’ spins for them.

The champion from each Cypher in Auckland and Wellington will win the right to one of 16 spots at the Red Bull BC One Asia Pacific Qualifier. Here, they will represent New Zealand in the next level of the competition where they will battle fellow B-Boys from Australia, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, South Asia, Laos and Vietnam in an attempt to reach the world final.

Both Cyphers are free for spectators, hosted by one of New Zealand’s top Hip Hop MCs Juce1, where some of the country’s finest B-Boys will battle to the beats of DJ Spell.

Red Bull BC One Cypher Auckland is being held at Zeal West from 7pm on the 25th of May 2012. Red Bull BC One Cypher Wellington is being held at Zeal Welly from 7pm on the 26th of May 2012.
